The 2002 HarderFaster Awards - Part II

Reported by HarderFaster / Submitted 24-01-03 16:30

It's taken us a bit longer than expected but finally we present rest of the results for our 2002 Readers Poll. These are possibly the most important categories of all as the winners here will be those who go on to bigger and better things in 2003 and beyond. Here we go then:

HarderFaster New Event of the Year

Winner: becomeone

From humble beginnings in a hot, small basement room at The Griffin to a hugely successful New Year's Eve bash at their current residency at (sub) Logic, the becomeone crew have done great things in 2002. Key to their success has always been the legendary crowd vibe that they've managed to retain throughout, making their parties seem like a gathering of friends more than anything else. Backed up with a strong set of residents and guests kicking out a music policy offering a progression from funky choons through to banging beats and you've got a winner. Congratulations to the crew!

2nd Place: Heat
3rd Place: Rush

HarderFaster New Producer of the Year

Winner: Prime Mover

Dave Parkinson and Aran Paramor aka Prime Mover have truly done awesome work in 2002. Starting off with a series of top quality remixes including their excellent reworkings of 'All Your Bass' and 'The Jungle', they followed this up with the monster Prime Mover EP which catapulted them to the front of every DJs mind as 'Black Dogs' rocked dancefloors everywhere. Just when you thought they could do no better and out comes 'Feel What I Feel', a perfectly crafted slab of hard driving uplifting trance which raised hands to the heavens wherever and whenever it was played. What will 2003 bring for this pairing?

2nd Place: James Lawson
3rd Place: Ali Wilson

HarderFaster Up and Coming DJ of the Year

Winner: Simon Rutherford

Simon's been playing for a couple of years now but in 2002 he really made huge progress. Anyone who expects instant success as a DJ and to be quickly booked for the big venues is deluding themselves - like Simon you have to take the opportunity to play anywhere and everywhere, build the experience and expertise and with perseverance the bookings will come. Now a guest resident at Heat, Simon is everything you'd expect a winner in this category to be - technically he's one of the tightest mixing DJs around and his tune selection has proved time and time again that he's got what it takes to motivate a dancefloor. Possibly even more importantly he's constantly making efforts to build his profile by playing house parties, giving out demo CDs to clubbers (even if the cover shots are dodgy Wink ) and chatting with promoters. Nice one.

2nd Place: Chris Vincent
3rd Place: Daegal Brain

Congratulations once again to the winners and runners-up and thanks to all those who voted.

See you next year Big grin

HF Thumbs up
