Logic: Second Contact - Review

One thing I love about London party people, is that they like to get into it nice and early! Back home in Adelaide (Australia), things don’t really get cracking until 1am. So, by the time I got myself sorted and through the door just before midnight, I found the Fridge fairly full of loads of happy, smiling faces and the dance floor nicely packed. Beckoned to the dance floor by the lyric ‘they say I’m crazy’, I was pretty much glued there by the nice hard beats delivered by the dj’s.
I am a bit of a sucker for surprises and this is just what I got when Opal took to the stage. Not having seen them before, I had no idea what to expect, and so was in for quite a treat. They started up with some cool (Star Wars?) visuals projected onto a massive screen both across the front of the stage as well as to either side, and, dropping the pace a litte, moved on into a set which was a fusion of funky and hard uplifting tunes to keep the dance floor rolling along very nicely. I really liked watching the guys get right into it too; nothing like seeing the dj having a good a time as you!
Karim is somewhat of a local legend in my hometown (and one of my fave djs) and this was to be my first experience of catching him in his stomping ground. I wasn’t disappointed! In true Karim style he unleashed his trademark hard and funky-edged tunage, to keep those of us on the dance floor bouncing.
But the highlight of my evening had to be Proteus! I was totally blown away the last (and first) time I saw him at Logic’s Christmas show. The energy and enthusiasm he delivers to a set is almost second to none! Add that to his stageshow and you are in for one hell of an experience! This time was no exception as he entranced and mesmerised the crowd with his spiffy intro and kept the crowd enthused by his on-stage antics, track selection and turntablism. I already can’t wait to see what he has in store next time
Billy ‘Daniel’ Bunter finished the night up for me keeping it nice and hard with a few anthems thrown in which got the crowd right into it.
This review wouldn’t be complete without commending the tech guys for the production side of things; I just love watching them jump about in the scaffolding making sure absolutely everything runs in sync and like clock work. My apologies to those dj’s who played in the second room; I hate reading reviews that don’t make an effort to check everything out, like this one, but truth be known I was having too much fun in the main room
All in all a great night had by at least all of those I chatted to; great mix of tunes over the night and lots of little added extras to take it from just another night out to an unforgettable experience.
This may have only been my second Logic event but it has already firmly established itself as a very firm favourite on my party calendar!
Until next time, if ya gonna do something have fun doing it!!
The next Logic event is on Friday 18th April at the Fridge - details coming soon!

From: Silvertone (Alan Laing) on 24th Mar 2003 10:24.47 Thanks to Dave and Nadya for putting on another cracking night and giving us a back room to play in.
Thanks to all the backroom DJ's and sorry to Shaf for leaving him with a drum and bass tune to mix into, it wasn't supposed to happen that way....I just ran out of time for my last two tunes.....Thanks to the DJ on at 12:30 as I love the way you work, I don't think there has ever been a more smiley DJ which is in stark contrast with my miserable face when mixing.....wish I could be a bit more like you....not only do you smile you can rock a room too.
From: Dan_Durnin on 24th Mar 2003 16:47.10 Glad you like the hardcore Jumbo - me and G-Whizz who played after me, decided to try something different, and from the response we got from the crowd, I think it hit the spot Top marks to Dave n Nadya for once again putting on a brilliant event.
