Sirens; Mythical sea nymphs whose beautiful song would lure mariners to their deaths.
Sirens are a new production outfit made up of London vocal coaches Cat Llewelyn and Bex Hazard and this is their first release on the new BCTraxx imprint "Tears of Angel". A big vocal trancer, it has been well received by the likes of Guy Ornadel and is creeping into some of the more descerning record boxes around the place. The production outfit Ignition are on remix duties and provide the two main mixes, a vocal and dub mix.
Firstly the dub mix, this has a very euro feel with a bubbly bassline and makes good use of the vocal hook. The pads are what do it for me in this mix, quite simple and unobtrusive but build beautifully into the main riff. This mix with it's nice crisp percussion will most likely be played earlier on in the evening, a great warm up tune.
The vocal mix is principally the same as the dub but it unleashes a MASSIVE vocal. This is peak time vocal trance with great "I am a tree" - style trance lyrics. Everything else in the tune is just window dressing for the huge "Mirage of Hope" style vocal that is used as a harmony for the main synth riffs, just spine tingling.
Overall the dub mix just edges it for me as I prefer the more subtle trance action, but that's not to detract from the vocal mix which deserves to get a peak time airing on the floors with more commercial sensitivities. There's nothing groundbreaking here but it covers all the bases well and is a strong release. A strong debut, this bodes well for the future. Overall 7/10
