» Renaissance: The Masters Series Vo.7

Reviewed by Tim Davison / Submitted 03-06-06 18:37

Label: Renaissance
Format: 2 x CD
Genre: Progressive House

While Global Underground currently celebrate their 10th anniversary, there are few other compilation series that promise to emulate such longevity. The Masters Series could well be one.

Now on its 7th volume, Dave Seaman returns for his third outing in the series. With Volume 1 ("Awakening") and Volume 2 ("Desire") clocking up sales of 120,000 it is unsurprising to see this master back at the helm.

"I still get excited about doing a 'Masters' CD as it's one of the most recognised and respected series in an over-populated compilation market. It's always a challenge (and this was no exception), but I think there's a great balance of top names, hidden gems and future classic"

With so many of the leading producers in the scene right now, it is difficult to single out any particular track above the others. There is nothing dark or too minimal here and the two disks are all the better for it. They reflect the most current sounds with a smattering of progressive electro house pervading the selection without dominating the overall feel and confirms that Seaman retains his ear for a great track.

It should also be noted that Insect (Nike/Banksy) has been employed to produce the excellent artwork for the compilation. Such attention to detail and willingness to go that extra step is typical of Renaissance's approach to this series.

The album was released on 13 March.
