When promos hit my inbox come from my Essex based brotherhood in the form of Encoded I am already willing myself to love it just to prove Essex knows how to do it. Encoded head honcho Scott Genetik teams up with a name new to me in the form of PSR, plus Jody 6 on remix duties Turn The Heat Up looks like it’ll be a hard dance bomb.
Starting with the original firstly hats off and around of applause for Scott and PSR’s production. Its as clean as a whistle and its hard trance with some hard house feeling with the percussion and kick. Some nice interesting snare fills keep saddos like me happy as it’s the attention to detail that I love. Its once the intro riff filters in you can tell its going to be a big one. Once we hit the breakdown we get some classic hard trance fodder in a spoken vocal, and one almighty riff. This one is no way breaking the boundaries of hard dance, but once it kicks back in with some nice changes to the riff pattern takes it to a whole new level. Without doubt Scott is one to watch this year with his productions getting better and better. Tracks like Turn The Heat Up are no nonsense hard dance and quite frankly we need tracks this strong now a days.
Then we turn to the Jody 6 remix and expecting something brilliant as we’ve seen Jody dropping some killer tracks of late. But alas I’m left wanting. The original has given him a bounty to work with, a cool intro riff, a big main room riff and Jody has just let me down. The percussion feels empty, the bassline a bit weak. It feels like he’s aimed for a more hard house feel, but has missed the mark and this leaves the track feeling like a weak version of the original. Nothing is terrible about it, but with both of these tracks on offer I would be reaching for the original every day of the week.
Overall a really strong original track here that should be gracing the cd wallets of the hard trance faithful. Sadly Jody 6’s remix misses the mark, but every producer is allowed an off day. I think Encoded are well and truly proving Essex knows how to do it, innit!
