Regular HF music reviewer Pete M kicked off the Hard Electric series here and as promised the rest will be added in this review by yours truly. I’ve been away from reviewing for a while so I was interested to see how things were developing music wise.

First up we have Jon Bishop. Hailing from San Diego in California Jon is probably America’s premier hard DJ. With a 10 year residency behind him at Club Hedonism in the US along with a host of releases and monthly spot for Sundissential he has the relevant CV to produce a mix for Hard Electric. The mix itself has a slightly European flavour, chunky beats and dub step type effects a plenty combined with breakdowns, trance inspired riffs and quirky vocals. A real mish mash this and certainly something different.

Next, and staying on the North American side of the pond is Aaron Olson. With a list of releases on Riot!, Nukleuz, Kung Fu /Tech Fu and mixing four separate compilations in 2011 plus writing scores for dramas and action films his musical ability is without question. This mix has great progression. It kicks off with a tough tech trance feel before picking up the pace and then it’s real tech and finally proper hard house, hoovers an all.

Third in the series is Andrea Montorsi from Modena in Italy. With over 200 productions and a regular at the festival across Europe, Andrea has a true passion for the harder style of dance. This is quite a dark mix. His love of trance comes through in the form of the breaks and big riffs but there’s nothing in the way of fluff here. Definite Euro feel as you would expect as the mix teeters on the edge of Hardstyle without fully committing itself. It’s hard trance Jim but not as we know it!

Heading north east across Europe now we get to the Ukraine and Eugene Chistyakov, better known as DIABLIK. Repeated play’s on Kutski’s Radio One show and support from the likes of Scot Project, Yoji and the Organ Donors means he’s a name you’ll see more of. Now he has his own show on the biggest dance music radio in Europe, Kiss FM Ukraine. He mix is relentless, a fusion of techno beats with a low down dirty groove and retro synths. There really is no let-up with this one.

Finally for now we head down under for Sydney born Bexta who’s recognized as the first female DJ and producer of the Australian dance generation. World-wide gigs supporting some of the biggest names in the industry are fitted in with running Shuffler/SHFL, Mixology Music Management and Mixology Digital Records as well as a weekly show on DJ.FM’s hard dance channel. If you want it hard then look no further, this mix is taking no prisoners. Genuine Hardstyle is smashed out with Hard House acting as backup. Not really to my taste but check it out kids if this is your type of thing.

There's one more review to follow so watch this space for updates.
