Chicane is a bit of a legend in dance music circles so I was fairly interested to hear his fifth studio album when it made an appearance through my letterbox. I listened to this with a completely open mind not really knowing what to expect. It also got a few plays in the car on my recent drive up to Scotland.
So, what do you get? Well it's quite a mishmash of styles from upbeat trance to very chilled out ambient stuff. There's some soothing vocal tracks thrown in there as well. I was kind of disappointed the first time I listened, it felt a little lightweight but it's one of those that grows on you and now I actually appreciate it more for what it is. It's easy listening dance music in a way and that's not meant to sound derogatory. It's quite mature, well produced and a little different so has to be applauded.
I think the CD will stay in my car for a while yet.
