Can someone explain to me why an Arabian Tycoon would want to buy a second rate football club?

I suppose an investment in a lower team would be more practical than a higher team

surely a lower team can improve more meaning more goals and more cash earning opportunities

almost like buying low and selling high

When United were investing the money they earned from FOOTBALL into expanding their stadium and being shrewd in commercialising their brand image, little scrotey teams all cried about how unfair it was.

Nowadays those same little scrotey teams don't even hide the fact that they wish they'd get bought by a sugar daddy so they can invest money stolen from governments or from oil or construction to 'Championship Manager Cheat Mode' their way to being the next Man Shitty or Chelski.

What a hollow way to the top. No class, No history.

Leeds have a massive and very loyal fan base.
So it makes good commercial sense, especially with the new spending rules coming into place.
It makes more sense to invest in a club like Leeds that a smaller premier league club like say Wigan.

Out of interest, how were united "shrewd" in commercialising their brand image?

Life is far too important to be taken seriously

They have been to be fair.

Various sponsorships, even their training kit has a bigger sponsorship in DHL than most clubs have for their main sponsor

They have been far from shrewd IMO. despite their massive fan base they have been languishing in the Championship for some time.

Its fairly common knowledge that Manchester United were at the forefront of realising the potential value inherent in an famous established football club. Realising the untapped value of overseas fans, TV channel, Merchandise, Megastore etc.
